Week 3: Strawberries
In this week’s issue of my Farmers Market Produce Guide, I will be reviewing all things relating to Strawberries!


Is there anything better than biting into warm summer strawberry straight from a farmstand? I think not! One of the first fruits to ripen in late spring, strawberries are at their sweetest in early June. I have included a few of my favorite Strawberry recipes to share as well.



Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner…my Strawberry Dump-It Cobbler counts as any meal in the summer- no judgement here! You seriousy won’t believe how easy it is to create this guilt-free indulgence that’s perfect for Fourth of July festivities or any summer evening.



Just dump those juicy, vibrant strawberries into a baking dish along with a few ingredients you’re guaranteed to already have in the pantry and let the oven take care of the rest!

Pink Peppercorn Sauce– It is bright, juicy, and incredibly versatile. I love serving it with everything from pound cake (yes, the one on my website!) to ice cream, yogurt, cheesecake, even crème brûlée. It’s a beautiful, no-fuss accompaniment that instantly elevates a dessert.

Strawberry Chia Jam– The perfect recie when your strawberries start to turn. I could eat this just by the spoonful.

Fun Facts about Strawberries
Strawberries are technically not berries at all! Botanically speaking, they are classified as an “accessory fruit”…meaning the fleshy part doesn’t actually come from the plant’s ovaries. Bananas and avocados, on the other hand, ARE true berries. Nature is wild.
The first strawberry cookbook was published in 1765. People have been absolutely obsessed with them for centuries…and honestly same.
Strawberries are the only fruit that wear their seeds on the outside. The average strawberry has about 200 tiny seeds sitting right on the surface …and every single one of those seeds is technically its own separate fruit.

Storage Tips
Do not wash strawberries until you are ready to eat them…moisture is their enemy and will cause them to go soft and moldy very quickly!
Store unwashed strawberries in a single layer on a paper towel lined container in the fridge…this absorbs any extra moisture and keeps them fresh longer.
For the absolute best flavor, take them out of the fridge about 30 minutes before eating. Room temperature strawberries are infinitely more flavorful and fragrant than cold ones.
